Friday Things

Happy Friday!

I’m happy today because it’s Friday and because it’s prime leaf-falling season and because my boyfriend is coming home from his job in North Carolina to celebrate my turning another year older this weekend.

Here are three other things that made me happy this week:

1. On writing diverse topics (such as writing and wanderlust) on one blog.

2. Things to check off your pre-writing list before diving into a new work.

3. Turning grandma’s hobby into a business–and bringing much-needed Western money to a small town.

Reading: I just finish the third Raven Cycle book and oh my God, holy book hangover. My hesitations are totally gone; I adore this series, I adore these characters, I adore the writing and I am counting the days until the fourth one comes out. Also adding everything Maggie Stiefvater to my TBR stack.

Watching: Speaking of things I wasn’t sure about at first but am now hooked on, I’m now obsessed with this show. Side note: living alone makes me watch more TV. Like I need the voices in the house at night to feel less lonely. I don’t know if this is a good thing or bad thing.

Listening to: more Gaslight Anthem Pandora. It’s perfect for this time of year.

Happy fall!

I love this time of year. I love the leaves falling and the jacket weather and the hot toddys and the sense of nostalgia and comfort this season always brings.

Here are three things that made my week:

1. I FINISHED THE SECOND DRAFT OF MY BOOK. I really didn’t think I would make it for a little while there. BUT I DID IT. Now I will set it aside and try and forget about it for at least three months.  AND IN THAT TIME I GET TO START WRITING A NEW BOOK 😀

2. A friend of mine is living the dream: quitting his job, buying a one-way ticket, and traveling indefinitely. Hey, jealousy! Follow his adventures here!

3.  This Tumblr is amazing for all of those who are in love with this current season (such as myself.)

Reading: THE GREATEST BOOK EVER. Seriously. Do you ever pick up a book and think, hmmm, this author clearly is writing directly to me? It’s about Welsh legends (which I’ve had a strange affinity for ever since reading this book as a child), prep school boys, family drama, and magic–and it’s beautifully written. I’m reading it every spare minute I have and at the same time, dreading its ending, because I am loving it so, so much. Fortunately for me it has two books which come after it 😀

Watching: Nothing, because I’ve been busy reading and writing.

Listening to: The Bouncing Souls. They’re amazing. Why has no one told me about them before?

Wanderlusty Wednesday: Camp Hoover

I am super-bummed to have missed my annual camping trip with my cousins in North Jersey this year because of moving weekend. But here is a photo of our favorite campsite at our favorite camping ground. The best thing about this place is that it looks exactly the same today as it did twenty years ago. I love the tall trees, I love the Civil War-era tents, I love the battered old canoes, I love the midget-height showers with their giant spiders. I love that nothing changes. Til next year, Camp Hoover!

Feeling Nostalgic

La Vire in Autumn III

Today I’m missing Saint-Lô. Most of all, I miss those autumn afternoons where I had nothing to do but take long walks out into the countryside on the Route Du Candol, with no one but the cows for company. I thought I was doing nothing but wandering, but really I was percolating; these long walks inspired the seeds of what would later become my first novel. Never stop wandering.
